Murmur ("the App") is an interactive particle visualization application that responds to camera input, microphone audio, and optional heart rate variability (HRV) sensors. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle data when you use the App.

2. Information We Process

The App may access the following device features with your permission:

How it works: When you enable camera or microphone access, the App processes this data in real-time within your web browser to create interactive visualizations. The data stream is analyzed locally and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

To be absolutely clear, we do NOT:

• Collect or store any personal information
• Record or save camera or microphone data
• Transmit any data to external servers
• Use cookies for tracking purposes
• Use analytics, advertising, or tracking services
• Create user accounts or profiles
• Store data in localStorage, cookies, or IndexedDB (except for a single consent preference flag)

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

• We do not collect any personal information from children or adults
• No data is stored or transmitted from your device
• Camera and microphone data is processed locally and immediately discarded
• We do not require registration or account creation
• We do not use behavioral tracking or targeted advertising

Parents can allow their children to use this App knowing that no personal data will be collected, stored, or shared.

5. GDPR Compliance (European Union)

For users in the European Union and European Economic Area:

• Legal basis: Our processing is based on legitimate interest — providing an interactive visualization experience. Since no personal data leaves your device, no further legal basis is required.
• Data controller: No personal data is collected, so there is no data controller in the traditional sense.
• Your rights: Since we don't collect or store any personal data, rights such as access, rectification, erasure, and data portability are automatically satisfied.
• Data transfers: No data is transferred outside your device.

6. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party libraries, all of which run entirely in your browser:

• face-api.js: A JavaScript face detection library. The machine learning models run locally in your browser — no facial data is sent to external servers.

We do not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or social media services.

7. Browser Permissions

When you use features that require camera or microphone access, your browser will ask for permission. You have full control over these permissions:

• You can deny permission and still use other features of the App
• You can revoke permissions at any time through your browser settings
• The App will clearly indicate when camera or microphone access is active

8. Data Security

Since all data processing happens locally on your device and nothing is transmitted or stored, there are no data security risks associated with server-side storage. Your data never leaves your device.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
